House Captains
All six of our school houses are named after well-known Lincoln landmarks (with Imps being the one fun exception – still very local!): Cathedral, Castle, Imps, Stonebow, Brayford and Bailgate. We are delighted to have twelve new and enthusiastic House Captains at Welton St Mary’s, who are eager to help lead and represent their houses throughout the academic year.
Our House Captains have been trained by Mr Durkan on how to deliver an effective school tour, and six have already successfully led their own tours. They are looking forward to welcoming more visitors to our school community and sharing everything that makes Welton St Mary’s such a special place.
Throughout each term, all children collect house points for excellent work, positive behaviour, and any achievements that impress staff. Our House Captains will also be presenting our termly ‘Thrive’ and ‘Above and Beyond’ awards, which two children per class receive at the end of each term in recognition of their progress, attitude and effort. They will also be responsible for choosing a special reward for the winners. The first treat will be a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows!
This term, we are launching a special house competition linked to our 200th birthday celebrations. Every KS2 child will design a new school banner, which will be showcased initially at our 200th birthday service at Lincoln Cathedral. Each house will vote for their top three designs, before a panel of staff and pupils choose the final winner. The chosen design will then be brought to life by an embroidery expert, working alongside some of our pupils. The House Captains will decide on future house competitions in terms 3 to 6.
Our democratically elected House Captains have introduced themselves below. Please take a moment to read their profiles and get to know them. We will keep this page updated throughout the year so you can follow house events and track which house is leading in the team points challenge.
I am Annabelle and I am very proud of myself for becoming House Captain. As House Captain, I will be able to express my leadership skills. The reason I applied for House Captain is so I could help my house, Bailgate, grow. In my free time I read, play, swim, dance and play football. Even if my house is not the best or does not win, I will still be proud.
I am Louis and I am pleased to be the House Captain for Bailgate. I wanted to go for House Captain to help out, take on responsibility and encourage teamwork. I am a very active person and enjoy lots of hobbies outside of school, including playing football and ten-pin bowling, which I am currently representing Lincolnshire in. In school, my favourite subject has to be PE, although history is a close second. I am really looking forward to my final year as House Captain.
Hi there! My name is Daisy, and I am proud to be Brayford’s House Captain. I enjoy creative writing (a lot!), sketching and skiing! As House Captain, I aim to bring energy, inclusivity and enthusiasm into our house, supporting younger children and doing everything I can to help everyone feel part of the team.
Hi, my name is Leo and I’m a House Captain for Brayford. This year, I am excited to participate in school tours with parents, to show them around the great school we have. I love history and currently we are learning about World War One, which really interests me. I also love basketball, which I play with my friends almost every breaktime.
Hi, my name is Willow and I’m a House Captain for Castle. I believe I am patient, kind and good at problem-solving, which is why I was selected. Personally, my favourite type of book is fiction, especially fantasy, because that is where the true chaos happens with witches, dragons, trolls, humans and more! I’ve entered the Lincoln Book Festival 50 Word Challenge and won both times with Bedtime Story and The Ultimate Green Villains. My favourite subjects are Maths, DT and writing fiction. I like dancing, gymnastics, singing and Brownies outside of school.
Hi, my name is Evie and I’m a House Captain for Castle. This year, I’m looking forward to helping KS1 at their disco and helping give out awards for the ‘Thrive Award’ and the ‘Above and Beyond’ award. As a House Captain, I would like to think I am kind, always willing to lend a hand, good with younger children, and I don’t mind talking in front of big crowds. Overall, I think that being a House Captain is really fun and a great opportunity for those willing.
Hello. My name is Emily K and I am the House Captain for Cathedral. I have been at Welton St Mary’s for my whole school life. As well as being House Captain, I used to be a Collective Worship Council member. My proudest moment was representing my school community on BBC Radio Lincolnshire, where I spoke about our school’s Silver Reader project (tackling loneliness in the community).
Hi, my name is Finley and I am a House Captain for Cathedral. Some of my favourite hobbies are rugby, drawing and gaming. In my free time, I like chatting with friends and riding my scooter. My favourite subjects are Art and Maths: Art because it allows me to use my imagination, and Maths because I like working things out and putting myself forward for challenges. I am excited to be a House Captain because I am looking forward to hosting the events that our school has, such as the talent show, Easter sports, and House Quiz. I think I will be a good House Captain because I can help our school “strive for excellence”. I will also be a good House Captain because I will help my peers flourish and be agents of positive change. In my opinion, WSM is a great school for education. I am very excited to be a House Captain this year!
Hi, my name is Theo and I am House Captain for Imp House. In my spare time I enjoy playing the drums, bowling and spending A LOT of time at the skate park on my scooter. This year, I am most excited to help out and be involved in activities within school.
Hi there! My name is Emily R, and I am the Imp’s House Captain. I enjoy drawing and dancing, and I am extremely excited to help out with Sports Day. I love spending time with younger children at lunchtime, and I hope I can help them grow as well as support them. As House Captain, I hope to welcome and help everyone care, learn and thrive.
My name is Esme and I am the House Captain for Stonebow. Previously, I have been a representative for the School Council. I applied for House Captain because I wanted to continue to make a difference to school life. I am looking forward to all the opportunities I will have this year as House Captain, and I like supporting other children, particularly the younger ones, to settle in, make friends and enjoy school. Outside of school, I am very sporty and love representing the county of Lincolnshire in tennis. I also enjoy art and being out in nature.
Hi, my name is Tilly and I am the House Captain for Stonebow. I would like to start by saying that being a House Captain is such a huge honour, and it helps boost my confidence when talking in front of people. Alongside this, it also helps with leadership skills. I don’t have many interests, but one of the few is dancing. My favourite subject in school is either Maths or History.
