Young Carers
At Welton St Mary’s Church of England Primary Academy we value each person. We believe as an inclusive Christian community all young people have a right to an education, to flourish and strive for excellence, regardless of their situation at home.
When a young person has a caring responsibility, they may need extra support to help them get the most out of school. We define a Young Carer as a young person under the age of 18 who has caring responsibilities for a family member with a disability, health condition or substance misuse issue. Young Carers may provide physical care, personal care, help with medication or practical tasks, or provide emotional support.
What are Young Carers have to say:
It helps me to deal with things at home. It makes me feel better and less alone. I feel comfortable talking to the adult and I don’t feel like I’m in the shadows, what I mean is, I’m not hidden because the other children know what it’s like.
Getting together with other young carers feels like it helps me and other people. It can be hard at home, but the club means you can share and feel normal. It makes me feel calm, relaxed or excited when we do things together.

Through challenge, support and care, we strive for excellence in all that we do; always building on the foundations of shared values with consistently high expectations rooted in God’s love. Together we are encouraged to be agents of positive change in this world.
‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.’ Romans 15:13
Together we care, learn and thrive
