Supporting Our Looked After and Previously Looked After Children

At our school, we are committed to providing a caring, inclusive, and supportive environment where all children can thrive. We recognise that looked after and previously looked after children may face additional challenges, and we work closely with pupils, carers, and professionals to ensure they feel safe, valued, and supported in their learning and wellbeing.

We have a dedicated Designated Teacher for Looked After and Previously Looked After Children who plays a key role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally. The Designated Teacher works closely with each child to prepare information for their Looked After Child (LAC) reviews, ensuring their voice, achievements, and needs are clearly represented.

Personal Education Plans (PEPs) are prepared collaboratively with each child, helping to set clear, achievable targets and identify the support needed for continued progress. These plans are reviewed regularly to ensure they remain relevant and effective in meeting each pupil’s individual needs.

The Designated Teacher also works closely with the Virtual School to ensure that appropriate guidance, funding, and support are in place to meet each child’s individual needs. This partnership helps to promote high expectations, consistency, and strong educational outcomes.

In addition, the Designated Teacher meets regularly with foster carers and other professionals to share information, offer guidance, and ensure a consistent and joined-up approach to support. This close collaboration helps to promote stability, confidence, and success for every child.

Support is also in place for previously looked after children, recognising that they may continue to benefit from additional guidance and encouragement. We work sensitively with these pupils to help them to feel secure, supported, and able to achieve their full potential.

Through ongoing communication, careful planning, and dedicated pastoral support, we aim to remove barriers to learning and help looked after and previously looked after children flourish. We are proud to provide a nurturing environment where every child feels encouraged, respected, and empowered to succeed.
