Victorian Day
Victorian Day – A Step Back in Time
As part of our 200th birthday celebrations, the whole school took part in an immersive Victorian Day on Monday 13th October 2025. Staff and pupils alike stepped back in time to experience what school life was like in the 1800s — with every member of staff, including the admin team and site manager, dressed in authentic Victorian attire and staying in character throughout the day!
Inspired by entries from our own historic school logbooks, the children took part in lessons from the past, including scripture, handwriting, arithmetic, reading, history and object drawing. The day was completely tech-free, with each class using their own chalkboards — beautifully made by Mr Garfoot — to record their learning. The school bell marked the start of lessons and the end of break and lunch, adding to the authentic atmosphere.
Lunchtime had a Victorian twist too, with traditional playground games such as hopscotch and skipping. The children even had the opportunity to handle genuine Victorian coins, discovering that the one penny they held might once have bought them a loaf of bread or a short horse-drawn journey on an omnibus! They also experienced first-hand the strict routines and formal lessons typical of the time.
Each class also enjoyed a Victorian workshop delivered by an external provider, further bringing the past to life. The entire day was filmed and will feature in our 200th birthday film later this year — something we’re all very excited about!
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational day for everyone, giving pupils a real taste of how schooling — and life — has changed over the last two centuries. Have a look at some of our pictures below to see the day in action!
